Great news for fans of unique electronic music! The cherished collaborative project “Weekend at Barnies” from Soul Clap, No Regular Play, and John Camp is getting a full re-release by Soul Clap Records in 2025. Originally a limited vinyl release, this project, born from friendship and a shared love for blending jazz and dance music, is now widely available with exciting new additions.
The re-release features original tracks and fresh material. The title track, “Weekend at Barnies,” is a rich blend of Charles Levine’s soulful croons, Greg Paulus’s spoken word and Miles Davis-esque trumpet, alongside John Camp’s dark synth pads and fat basslines. An instrumental dub version offers a deep, maritime soundscape. Debuting on this release, “Scorpius Maximus” is an 8-minute, hypnotic jazz house/techno fusion. Expect sparkly keyboards from John Camp, pleading vocals from Charlie, and left-field trumpet solos from Greg Paulus, creating a dream-like experience. Lastly, “Great Northern,” a long-time favorite in Soul Clap DJ sets, is an uplifting trumpet-led house instrumental built on soaring arpeggios and rising chords. Perfect for setting an optimistic mood, its simple beat for dancers and ascending melodies for lovers are beautifully layered.
Grammy-nominated producer Martin Buttrich reworks both “Scorpius Maximus” and “Weekend at Barnies.” His remixes add girth and emphasize the tribal rhythms, bringing a fresh perspective to these standout tracks.
“Weekend at Barnies” is a celebration of collaboration and musical innovation. Don’t miss this expanded release!
