Qwestlife – Can’t Stop (ISM)

Since the new Daft Punk album landed and the ‘Summer Of Disco’ is upon us, it’s time for Qwestlife to enter the scenario.

Qwestlife, an ultra hot boogie band with a desire to make the party rock, inspired by artists such as Leroy Burgess, Patrick Adams, Brothers Johnson and Rod Temperton. Combine this with great songs made the old school way with sexy analogue instruments and weird electronic gadgetry. Qwestlife’s sound is the link between the likes of chart topping Duke Dumont featuring A.M.E ‘100%’ & a new generation of ‘Boogie’ music.

Qwestlife are Parisian Tom Laroye & London based Yam Who? with featured vocalists from France, UK and the USA. Their debut release is receiving critical acclaim and is currently Mixmag’s disco tune of the month.

‘Can’t Stop’ Featuring Alena is similar in tempo and beat to Sharon Brown’s classic ‘I specialize in love’ but more street tough and uplifting, ‘Can’t Stop’ is laced with classic disco-funk synths, chord changes and soulful female vocals from Alena, who previously had one of the biggest dancefloor hits in recent years on Ism with ‘Changes’, remixed by the mighty Ron Basejam. ‘Can’t Stop’ could well be mistaken for an old tune if the modern production didn’t give it away, and is destined to be a total summer anthem.

‘Don’t Break My Heart’ featuring Lady Z sounding like a female version of Prince, and nowhere near a new artist, Zee Star is already a musician’s musician with massive global performances under her belt. ‘Don’t Break My Heart’ is another Prelude influenced groove, laced with Zee’s smoky vocals that go from blues to soul to disco and all the way back again. The production is seductive, creative and just downright good party music at its best, and is already getting a huge DJ reaction.
