Recorded entirely on the beautiful island of Bali, the album effortlessly swings between Balearic grooves, sun-filled terrace house, and funky, seaside electronics. It’s a journey that starts with the opener, “Batu Karang,” where summery key stabs and laid-back drum machines immediately transport you to a place of pure positivity. Tracks like “Time” take a more electronic turn with twisting synth lines and a locked-on, sun-drenched groove.
The album’s mood is elevated by a very special guest appearance from house music royalty Robert Owens. On the track “Pass Me By,” his smooth, soulful vocals perfectly complement the pool terrace house grooves and a sneaky thumb piano melody. It’s a track that, as ever with Robert, does not disappoint. The first side of the album closes with the title track, “Made In The Shade,” a slice of nu-disco summer swing complete with funky guitar and, of course, a healthy dose of cowbell.
The second half of the album kicks off with a hands-in-the-air terrace anthem, driven by classic house pianos and a punchy beach disco groove. The journey continues with “Sun Fish,” an island-hopping anthem featuring meandering lead synths and a walking synth bassline. Their recent single, “Night Boat,” is next, filled with darting arpeggios and lush keyboard layers.
