J. Peacock – I’m Doing Just Fine EP (Dirt Crew Recordings)

J. Peacock is back to take over the Dirt Crew summer once more! Following his earlier collaboration with Laurence Guy on Shall Not Fade this March, the producer is welcomed again with four fresh, deep, and funky creations.

Released on June 27, 2025, via the respected Berlin-based label Dirt Crew Recordings, the “I’m Doing Just Fine EP” is a vibrant collection that solidifies J. Peacock’s unique approach to house music. The release spans approximately 15 minutes and offers soulful grooves and rich textures that are perfect for summer. This EP cements J. Peacock’s growing presence in the electronic music world, appealing directly to lovers of groove-heavy, soulful house music. With a driving rhythm around $126$ BPM, the tracks maintain a consistent flow, making the EP ideal for both the energy of a club and the intimacy of personal listening.

The title track, “I’m Doing Just Fine,” places the emphasis squarely on the strings. J. Peacock aimed to capture the cinematic, bittersweet feel found in Northern Soul records, and this energy became the spark for the entire project. The vocal is intentionally veiled behind the strings, creating a hazy, dreamlike atmosphere. It’s a loopy cut that gives a subtle nod to the lo-fi house movement of 2016.

Next up, “Keep Running” features a string-led groove built around a hypnotic soul sample. The work on this piece was heavily influenced by the producer’s all-time favorite track, “Deep Burnt.” The result is an urgent and euphoric composition, where a driving beat carries the emotional weight provided by the expansive string arrangement.

The mood shifts with “Can’t Go Nowhere,” a slower, more measured moment on the EP. Inspired by artists like Cottam, Mark E, and Tiger & Woods, this track is a chugging, early-hours builder. It’s perfectly crafted for warm-up sets and venues with low ceilings, showcasing the art of controlled energy—holding back just enough to keep the crowd moving with purpose.

Finally, “Hometime” fuses two of the producer’s favorite elements: dusty soul samples and the raw edge of the MS-20 synthesizer. The analogue machine provides the track’s distinctive character, with a constantly shifting and vibrant bassline. This raw grit is beautifully counterbalanced by the smoothness of the soul sample, keeping the entire piece perfectly in check.
