Soulstatejazz – Orbits EP (Noire & Blanche)

Welsh collective Soulstatejazz has returned with a captivating new single, “Pluto,” which officially landed on October 3, 2025, via the esteemed Noire & Blanche label. The track is an essential piece of their ongoing celestial journey, the “Orbits EP,” which is currently available on Bandcamp and defines their exquisite sound as a flawless fusion of live instrumentation and electronic jazz.

Soulstatejazz is a remarkable multi-instrumental live/electronic jazz ensemble hybrid, bringing together the talents of Tom Ellis on bass, drums, percussion, and production; Mark Hand on Fender Rhodes and Moog; Michiel Renger on tenor saxophone; and Dave Elson contributing with homemade Reaktor and Ableton instruments and effects. This inventive collective excels at creating a rich textural landscape, effortlessly merging acoustic vitality with electronic precision. Their dedication to a planetary theme is evident, as the Orbits EP features tracks named after planets, drawing the listener into a thematic celestial voyage through sound.

At five minutes and twenty-four seconds, “Pluto” is a perfect example of the band’s signature blend. The track anchors itself with a deep, pulsing bassline and intricate rhythmic percussion, over which the band weaves moist Fender Rhodes tones and expressive tenor saxophone melodies. The production is a masterclass in layering, highlighting their collaborative musicianship while the electronic elements inject a contemporary depth and atmospheric complexity. This is music that feels both intelligently crafted and emotively resonant, inviting listeners into a world of sophisticated sonic textures and melodic exploration.
