Following his diverse 2019 album Sagittarii, Illja Rudman is back on Bearfunk with his latest single, “Cosmia.” The release features the “Regal Mix” from the aforementioned album, a new remix by Pete Herbert, and a fresh edit of “Cosmia.”
Rudman has maintained a significant presence in both the Croatian and international electronic music scenes over the past decade. He has consistently delivered a distinctive blend of analog electro, disco, and house, primarily through his own labels, Red Music and Imogen Recordings, alongside releases on notable imprints such as Classic, Rong, Electric Minds, and Is It Balearic Recordings. This new release continues to highlight Rudman’s creative output, offering a track that is both soulful and ready for the dance floor.
The single opens with the Pete Herbert remix, which immediately establishes a smooth atmosphere with its silky pads and synth arpeggios. This melodious rendition is enriched with layers of congas and percussive piano keys that maintain a consistent rhythmic flow. The track evokes an 80s aesthetic, easily conjuring imagery of rollerblading along Venice Beach.
The mood shifts with the Main Theme edit of “Cosmia,” while still retaining Rudman’s characteristic soulful Rhodes sound. This version leans into a more Detroit Electro vibe, propelled by cascading, rolling drums. A subtle acid melody intertwines with a jazzy bassline, creating a well-rounded and dynamic composition.
The release concludes with the Regal Mix, originally featured on the Sagittarii album. This upfront disco-funk edit is designed to encourage movement, characterized by its layers of alternating melodies and shimmering arpeggios.
Overall, “Cosmia” is presented as a soulful release that seamlessly combines machine funk with organic grooves.
