CHIDA

Born out of the underground scene in Tokyo, Chida’s career has spanned over 20 years. Since the early 90s he has organized parties at all the notorious clubs Tokyo has to offer, from Ageha, Yellow, Unit, Loop to many others, exclusively bringing over the main players of house music from MAW to Strictly Rhythm and Nuyorican Soul label parties. This earned Chida a reputation as the go to warm up DJ for most of the internatioal DJs that graced the city over the years.

Since the turn of the century, Chida started working in management and A&R for Kenji Takimi’s Crue-L Recordings and Kaoru Inoue’s Seeds and Grounds, acquiring a strong knowledge of artists in Japan and developing a hunger to set up his own label. In 2009 he realized his dream and launched Ene Records, a vinyl dominated label, hand crafted – DIY style, featuring Japanese artists such as Sly Mongoose, Pyschogem 9DW, Cos Mes and The Backwoods. The label, now approaching it’s 14th release exposes the rare talent of the Japanese underground scene and up until now, has only featured Tiago and Lord of the Isles as the only “gaijin” releases. Chida has invited his favourite producers from outside of Japan to remix each record too. Prins Thomas, Eddie C, The Beat Broker, Coyote and Ray Mang to name but a few. Quality is never compromised, exemplified by the bespoke artwork and packaging, or be it the likes of Kotetsu at JVC who has mastered much of the label’s work.

Chida is as passionate about the “party” as he is about his label. His blog dancaholic is a hub for the followers of underground dance music in Japan to keep up to date with Ene and friends and their parties and DJ schedules. This year Chida has invited inspirational figures over to Japan to play and collaborate on his label. First up was Tiago, then the Ene * Keep It Cheap No.5 Tour with Justin Vandervolgen and Dr.Dunks. followed by an undergram * ene shocase headlined by the Siberian king of house, Vakula. Most recently was Lovefingers and not for the first time! Lovefingers’ ESP Institute has teamed up with Ene this year to release a remix EP of the Backwoods’ huge global hit from last year “Cloud Nine”, which featured wide support from Andrew Weatherall, Ivan Smagghe, Francois K, Eric Duncan, Tim Sweeney, Eddie C + many others. ENESP001 features a remix from The Stallions and Cos/Mes.

Show first aired in August 2012 on udancecn.com – webdjradio.com and intersonik.net
